Gustave Caillebotte Rue de Paris temps de pluie (Paris street in rainy weather) 1877. Urban life in Paris in the late 19th century. It's raining the cobblestones are wet and shiny. People appear to hurry rather than stroll through the streets shielded by their umbrellas. In the foreground is a fashionable middle class couple walking arm in arm. Caillebotte's Paris is almost one and a half century old but you can still recognize the Place the Dublin in the north of Paris. If the painting makes you think of a photo you would not be the first one to notice. Gustave Caillebotte took an early interest in the art of photography and techniques like 'cropping' and 'zooming-in' are commonly found in his works. Some digital restoration (March 2020) mainly to make the image a bit lighter especially the foreground with the main couple.
