Rossetti Salutation of Beatrice CC0646 Postcard

Dante Gabriel Rossetti - Salutation of Beatrice 1880-82. Rossetti was inspired by Vita Nuova a book by Dante Alighieri where he tells about his love for Beatrice. In the background Dante himself comforted by the red-robed figure of Love. My lady looks so gentle and so pure / When yielding salutation by the way / That the tongue trembles and has naught to say / And the eyes which fain would see may not endure. – From Vita Nuova by Dante Alighieri.
